POSTCARDS FROM BATH.

By Polly Florence - June 13, 2018

During our weekend away at Widbrook Grange we took a day trip to Bath– it was only a short train ride away and Bath has been top on my list of places to visit for the longest time! I was really looking forward to seeing the beautiful architecture and visiting the cute coffee shops but it actually exceeded my expectations and it's become one of my most favourite places, we're already planning another trip back and I'd be lying if I said I hadn't been looking at places to rent over there!

We started the day with a train ride from where we were staying in Bradford on Avon to Bath which only takes around ten minutes and we got to enjoy some beautiful sites from the window while we travelled. Once we arrived in Bath we wandered into Southgate Bath one of the main shopping areas and as Bath Festival was on while we were there we took in some live music and grabbed a cold drink and decided where to head first. We then made our way to see Bath Abbey and the Roman Baths and I was honestly blown away by how beautiful everything was– the architecture is just incredible and everywhere you turn there's a beautiful historic building in front of you!

We knew we wanted to visit the Roman Baths at some point during the day but as the queue looked really busy we thought we try again a later and do some wandering first instead (this turned out to be one of the best decisions of the day– more on that later!) After listening to some amazing buskers we headed for Pulteney Bridge– one of the most instagrammable spots in Bath. We took in the beautiful view and took lots of pictures, it was such a gorgeous sunny day and the light was reflecting off the water, it was one of those moments that I just felt so grateful to be able to see beautiful places like this, definitely one I'll always remember.

After stumbling across a flea market and browsing through the treasures and popping into a vintage shop (The Yellow Shop) and a charity bookshop (Julian House) we walked up Hay Hill– another very instagrammable spot and from there we made our way towards The Circus and The Royal Crescent– two places we were desperate to see and two of the most gorgeous streets I've ever seen! We took lots of pictures and people watched and enjoyed the sunshine for a while before heading to get lunch at this lovely little deli we came across– Chandos Deli on George Street– which I definitely recommend for really good coffee + food!

One of my favourite places we visited in Bath was Society Cafe on High Street– we went in for a much needed coffee stop after doing some more sightseeing and shopping. It's such a lovely little place with great coffee and I need to shout out the barista who saw me taking pictures and offered to make me an even prettier coffee!

After a bit more wandering we decided to head back to the Roman Baths and as it was about an hour from closing time it was really quiet time to visit– we went straight in and brought our tickets (it's around £16.50 to get in but in my opinion completely worth it!) it was honestly such a  interesting and beautiful place, especially on a sunny afternoon. We didn't have enough time really take it all in as there's a guided audio tour and so many displays about the history of the baths, but we were so happy to just experience it and take in the atmosphere. We also casually walked right past Robert Downey Jr. having a tour while we were there, which honestly made our day!

And that was the how we spent our day in Bath– I honestly had the BEST time– this beautiful place has rocketed to the top of my favourite places list and I can't wait to come back to explore some more! I really hope you enjoyed this post, I always love sharing our adventures with you! Has anyone else visited Bath? What was your favourite thing about it? I hope you're all having a beautiful day!
